Intro

The Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre (ALAC) is one of the City of Albany’s flagship community facilities, offering a wide range of programs including group fitness, aquatics, swim school, stadium sports and community wellbeing initiatives. Having originally joined the CouncilConnect program in 2019, the City sought to enhance ALAC’s digital presence by re-engaging Market Creations Agency to deliver a refreshed, modern and engaging online platform for the centre.

The Brief

The City required a website that captured the energy and community spirit of ALAC while providing an easy-to-use platform for members, families, sports groups, and casual visitors. The brief called for a bright and vibrant digital hub that brought together key information such as programs, group fitness timetables, lap lane availability, swim school details, membership options, facility hire and more.

The project’s goal was to create a unified online entry point that supported both everyday members and wider community users engaging with ALAC’s extensive services.

The Design

The refreshed design introduces an aquatic-inspired visual theme, using blue and green gradients that flow in wave-like patterns to reflect ALAC’s energy and environment. Our team also included motif ements drawn from the ALAC logo to add familiarity and brand cohesion, resulting in a look and feel that is modern, welcoming and unmistakably ALAC.

The design also emphasises clarity and accessibility, with a clean layout that prioritises navigation and makes high-demand information easy to find.

The Development

The new ALAC website was developed with a strong focus on usability and clear pathways for visitors. The homepage features a large hero image rotator that showcases a variety of high-quality images from across ALAC’s pools, gym, stadium and community facilities, immediately conveying the breadth of services on offer. A prominent search bar and “Popular Links” menu make it easy for users to quickly access high-demand information such as lap lane availability, group fitness timetables, swim school details, memberships and facility hire.

A content carousel further guides visitors to key service areas and important updates. Dedicated content sections were created to house frequently accessed information, including up-to-date lap lane availability and a detailed breakdown of membership options. The site also incorporates dynamic news, events and social media feeds to ensure the community stays informed and connected.

The Outcome

The new ALAC website delivers a significantly improved user experience, offering clear navigation, intuitive layouts, and modern features that support both long-term members and casual community users. 

Beyond aquatics and fitness, the new structure supports ALAC’s full range of offerings, from stadium sports and youth programs to crèche bookings, facility hire and café information, positioning the site as a true digital hub for the entire community.

The result is a vibrant, functional, and future-ready online platform that reflects the quality, diversity and community focus of the Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre.
