Shire of Brookton

The Shire of Brookton has been part of the CouncilConnect program since 2013, working closely with the Market Creations Agency team to ensure its website continues to meet the needs of residents, visitors and stakeholders.

After a website refresh in 2019, the Shire again approached our team to develop a new digital solution aligned with its evolving goals and recently updated corporate identity. The refreshed website was unveiled to the public in early 2026, marking the next chapter in Brookton’s digital journey.

The Design

The new website was developed following the Shire of Brookton’s rebrand, which introduced a vibrant new logo and a more colourful, contemporary visual language.

Taking cues directly from the updated branding, the website design features a palette of soft blues, yellows, greens and pinks. These colours are used playfully to accentuate key content areas while maintaining the professionalism expected of a local government website.

Local imagery plays an important role throughout the site, showcasing Brookton as a place to live, work and visit. Subtle patterns extracted from the Shire’s logo have also been incorporated across the design, adding texture and visual interest without overwhelming the content.

The result is a website that feels welcoming, modern and reflective of the Brookton community.

Navigation & Usability

From the moment users land on the site, a strong focus on navigation and usability is clear.

The homepage opens with a rotating hero image, supported by a prominent search bar and a quick links directory that guides users to high‑traffic and frequently accessed pages. A comprehensive mega menu further simplifies navigation, making it easy to explore the full breadth of information available.

A dedicated content area highlights Brookton’s unique attractions, helping visitors discover what makes the Shire special while ensuring residents can still find essential services quickly and easily.

Accessibility was also a key consideration. The website includes the UserWay Accessibility Widget, empowering users with visual impairments through a range of customisation tools. These include screen reader support, contrast and highlight controls, font sizing, text spacing adjustments and more, helping ensure the site is usable by as many people as possible.

Keeping Residents Informed

The refreshed website includes a suite of features designed to keep residents and visitors informed, engaged and up to date.

Key tools and content areas include a dedicated latest news and events feed, fire danger ratings, local weather forecast displays, and information highlighting Brookton’s proximity to Perth, balanced with the benefits of country living

Together, these features support timely communication while reinforcing Brookton’s appeal as a connected, liveable regional community.

The Outcome

The new website represents a significant visual and functional upgrade for the Shire of Brookton. It brings the Shire’s digital presence into alignment with its new corporate identity, creating a more unified, vibrant and contemporary experience.

Most importantly, the site better reflects the community it serves, balancing professionalism with warmth, clarity with personality, and accessibility with modern design.

We thoroughly enjoyed working with the Shire of Brookton on this project and are thrilled with the final result.
