Shire of Katanning

The Shire of Katanning first partnered with Market Creations Agency in 2016 to create their initial CouncilConnect website presence before reengaging our team in 2023 to revitalise their site design through the website refresh process. Our talented team of designers took on the opportunity to upgrade the site’s aesthetics and produce a modernised concept that maximises the visual elements appearing within the Shire’s new corporate logo that was established as part of a recent rebranding exercise. The final result was a much improved and visually striking website design that integrates the latest best UX practices and module developments from the SparkCMS.

Website Development:

Our team began work on the Shire of Katanning’s site refresh immediately following the launch of their Visit Katanning multisite which our team developed in partnership with shire staff to drive tourism efforts and offerings within the Katanning community. To help garner traffic to the new site, we setup a content area directly onto the corporate site’s new design advertising the Visit Katanning website and encouraging visitors to ‘look for an unexpected adventure’. Additionally, the website focused on providing quick link access to critical council resources.

Website Design:

The Shire of Katanning’s new site new design incorporates a red, blue and yellow colour palette derived from the shire’s new corporate branding. Our design team extended the paint splash elements from the logo to create the eNewsletter signup area design, and incorporated elements from the Visit Katanning logo into the tourism content area to link the two brands in the minds of the visitors.

Modules & Features:

The refreshed corporate site introduces the fire ratings module into the main menu for immediate access to fire danger updates. Also included in the main menu are several WCAG compliance tools to make the site accessible for all. First there is a Google Translate featuring allowing users to toggle the language of the site into their preferred language. There are also website accessibility controls that provide the user with the ability to increase the font size and contrast; a great addition to help those with visual impairments. Finally, the site also offers the A-Z sitemap module which allows users to view a list of all the pages and content within the site in alphabetical order to locate hard to find information.

Content Notifications:

The Shire of Katanning was an early adopter of one of our newest module developments in the Content Review Notifications. With this module enabled, users of Katanning’s website are able to register to receive email alerts when updates are published to certain modules. Currently this feature is available on the alerts, council meetings, events calendar, latest news, and public notices module within the Shire of Katanning’s website.

The Outcome:

Between the two new websites, the Shire of Katanning has completely revamped their digital presence and streamlined their online communication efforts.
