Canterbury-Bankstown Leisure & Aquatics

Canterbury-Bankstown Council engaged Market Creations Agency to deliver a new dedicated website for its Leisure & Aquatics services, bringing together four leisure and aquatic centres, Greenacre Splash Park and Sefton Golf Course into one modern digital platform. The project formed part of a broader digital transformation program, with the new website designed to improve accessibility, support customer self-service and integrate with Council’s new leisure management system, Perfect Gym.

The goal was to create a bold, accessible and highly functional website that better reflects the energy of Canterbury-Bankstown’s leisure and aquatic services, while making it easier for residents, members and visitors to find information, manage bookings, view timetables and connect with their local facility.

The Discovery

The project began with an extensive Discovery & Planning phase, including an on-site kick-off meeting, stakeholder interviews, facility site visits, staff surveying, digital benchmarking and customer journey mapping. This process helped define the requirements for a website that needed to serve a wide range of user groups, including families, casual visitors, swim school participants, members, golfers, older residents, and culturally diverse community members.

Research highlighted the need for clearer navigation, stronger mobile responsiveness, plain English content, improved accessibility, real-time information and a greater focus on online self-service. These insights shaped the structure, design, and functionality of the new website from the earliest stages of the project.

The Design

The visual direction for the new Canterbury-Bankstown Leisure & Aquatics website was bold, fun, accessible and non-corporate. The design needed to feel distinct from a traditional Council website while still maintaining alignment with Council’s broader identity.

Using a strong black and white base with secondary program colours, the design creates a vibrant and practical user experience that reflects the energy of the facilities and programs. The layout prioritises clear pathways to key actions, mobile usability and facility-specific content, making it easier for users to explore programs, access information and find the services most relevant to them.

Perfect Gym Integration

A key feature of the project was the integration with Perfec tGym, Council’s leisure management system. The integration supports real-time access to important operational information including memberships, pool lane availability and group fitness classes, helping users plan their visit and complete tasks with greater confidence.

By connecting the website with Perfect Gym, the new platform helps reduce reliance on manual processes and phone enquiries, while supporting a more seamless customer experience for bookings, memberships, timetables and future self-service improvements.

The Development

The website was developed on Spark CMS, providing Council with a flexible and easy-to-manage content management system. The build included responsive page templates, venue-specific microsite layouts, structured content areas, web forms, and modules to support ongoing communication with the community.

The website was also designed to support Council’s content management needs beyond launch, giving staff greater control over updates, facility information, alerts and program content. This was particularly important for a service area where opening hours, timetables, lane availability, membership information, and operational updates can change regularly.

The Outcome

The new Canterbury-Bankstown Leisure & Aquatics website delivers a modern, user-focused digital platform that brings multiple facilities and services together in one cohesive online experience. The site improves access to information, supports customer self-service, showcases programs and facilities more effectively, and provides a scalable foundation for Council’s ongoing digital transformation.

Following delivery, the project received outstanding client feedback, with five-star ratings across overall satisfaction, website design, functionality, performance, project timelines, communication, team professionalism and Spark CMS training.

“The energetic professionalism and communication throughout our website project were nothing short of outstanding from the Market Creations team. We had a very tight deadline for a large project, with many hurdles along the way - yet nothing was deemed an inconvenience.”

The contemporary leisure and aquatics website that reflects the vibrancy of Canterbury-Bankstown’s facilities, supports operational efficiency and provides a stronger digital experience for the community.
