Overview

The brand identity was designed to represent OIC’s purpose as a modern, forward-looking regulator, grounded in the Western Australian context.

The logo draws directly from the shape of Western Australia, creating an immediate and distinctive connection to place. A carefully developed colour palette, inspired by the state’s landscape, combines a gradient of orange and blue to represent the intersection of privacy and freedom of information and the relationship between these functions.

The movement within the gradient reflects the flow of information between government agencies and the community, reinforcing OIC’s role at the centre of this exchange. At its core, two dots symbolise people, highlighting a strong commitment to serving citizens and protecting their rights.

The upward trajectory of the form introduces a sense of growth, progress and forward thinking, supported by clean lines and dynamic elements that convey a contemporary, technology-driven organisation.

Stationery Suite Extensions

Building on the core identity, we developed a comprehensive stationery and communications suite to ensure consistency across all touchpoints.

This included a professionally designed letterhead, business cards and email signature set, alongside PowerPoint presentation templates and report cover designs to support both internal and external communications. Each application was carefully aligned to the visual identity, maintaining clarity, accessibility and a consistent tone across formats.

The suite was further extended into practical applications such as staff uniforms and additional branded materials, ensuring the identity could be applied confidently across both digital and physical environments. The result is a cohesive system that supports OIC’s daily operations while reinforcing its credibility and professionalism.

Style Guide

To bring the brand together, we developed a comprehensive style guide that provides clear direction on how the identity should be applied.

The guide covers logo usage, colour specifications, typography, graphic elements and layout principles, along with practical examples across key applications. It was designed to be both thorough and easy to use, enabling internal teams and external suppliers to maintain consistency over time.

By establishing clear rules and visual standards, the style guide ensures the OIC brand remains recognisable, accessible and adaptable as the organisation grows.

The Outcome

The launch of the new brand marks an important milestone for the Office of the Information Commissioner Western Australia. As outlined by OIC, the identity reinforces its role as an independent regulator, fostering trust and accountability through its privacy and freedom of information functions.

The brand’s connection to Western Australia, combined with a modern and dynamic visual system, reflects both its regional grounding and forward-looking approach. The gradient and graphic elements capture the flow of information between people and government, while the people-centric design ensures citizens remain at the heart of the identity.

Together with a complete suite of branded applications and a clear style guide, the new identity provides a strong, unified foundation that supports OIC’s work now and into the future.
